Procrastination, cont.

Many of you probably noticed that I procrastinated on my earlier blog post today. I actually did this on purpose to help make the point I wish to make. In college, I am surrounded by procrastinators and I am one myself. This creates an opportunity for many lessons to be learned from this, some of which can be applied on a spiritual level as well.

I face the temptation every day to sit here and watch Netflix instead of doing my homework. Time flies when watching Netflix and then, I have less time to finish my assignments. When this happens, I lose sleep in order to complete them on time. To most people, doing nothing can’t hurt, and sometimes it is productive in allowing the body to recover, but in this case, it does hurt.

Likewise, it is harmful to be spiritually idle. In a way, it is similar to running up a down escalator. Things of the world are trying to condemn us and keep us away from God. However, it is still possible to reach the goal if we keep moving, but if we stop moving we will be dragged down. If we are not moving forward in our relationship with God, we are moving away from God.

“We continually ask God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives, so that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience, and giving joyful thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of his holy people in the kingdom of light.” Colossians 1:9-12
