God Moves In Mysterious Ways

It is often said that God moves in mysterious ways, and this statement is true. We don’t always understand why He asks us to do certain things, especially when He asks us to do hard things. However, the correct response when we don’t understand is not to question it, but to get up and do it. Jesus is the perfect example of this. Why did He have to give up his deity to come to earth and live the lives we live? Why did He have to die a horrible death for our sins? Those are questions that I know I would probably ask if I were in that situation. However, the Bible never once records Jesus questioning what He knew had to be done. Instead, Jesus says to His Father, “not my will, but yours be done.” Coming to college has been a new experience. It doesn’t always make sense to everyone that we have to leave almost everyone we have ever known to move forward in life. This can be a difficult concept to grasp, but we can see many examples in the New Testament. When Jesus called the Apostles, they got up, left their nets, left their families, left everything they owned and followed Jesus. We have to make the same choices if we want to follow God. It’s interesting, though, that God always knows exactly what we need and provides these things for us. To be disciples of Christ, we must leave behind our families and friends. At the same time, when we decide to follow Christ, we enter into a new Christian family and we have new friends within that family. When friends leave us, He always provides new friends—friends who will lead us closer to God. We just have to trust God through these hard times and know that He will use that bad situation for the good. We may not always be able to see it from our limited perspective, but He is working to make everything the best for us.
“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” Romans 8:28
